Artificial intelligence could be another new species in the future

I’ve been watching films and TV series about artificial intelligence quite a lot in the recent few months thanks to the influence of my friend. The journey started from Avengers: Age Of Ultron, then Black Mirror, Ex Machina, Her and Humans. In all these films, only Avengers is with a positive ending. All the others stories looked more worried and confused.

Our attitude towards artificial intelligence has been evolved over time.

I remember that in the early years we were so much excited about the future when robots would help human being to complete all those labour work and boring jobs so we could all enjoy our life and live like in the communist society.

Few years later people started to worry that what if one day these robots would try to remove all human being and occupy the earth with all their cognates. Robots have long last life. They are would not get old or sick (are they?) and they are much easier to be fixed or updated than human beings. They are physically stronger. And they could calculate much faster than human beings. Robot were supposed to be without emotion, or in the other word, ruthless. Therefore sounds like that we could hardly win if there is going to be a war between human beings and robots.

Now a days, we are not only worried about the safety risks, but also about the ethical issues. Is it acceptable that one day robots replace the essential roles in a family, such as wives or husbands? If you are putting all of the mental you into a machine and they will be able to function like a human being, are they still robots? Should they be treated like another life species instead of cold machines? Should we making robots as real as human being? Should we make perfect machines?

The questions sound more and more difficult to answer.

To me it’s no doubt that one day artificial intelligence would play vital roles in our life and help us out. I am pretty positive that the future as described in Black Mirror, Her or Humans seems to be inevitable. Artificial intelligence would eventually become a major treatment to help people to cope with mental or physiological stress. As a result human beings would getting more and more addictive to robots

So is artificial intelligence going to be a threat to human being?  I personally am in favour of the idea brought up in the Avenger film. Same as human beings, there will be good robots which would try to help and protect us and bad robots which would try to destroy us. This would be inevitable. But if we believe that one day robots would be able to think and make judgement same as a decent human being like Vision in the latest Avenger film, then they should be trusted.

Should we embrace robots playing family members role in our lives? I think it’s a subjective call. If you don’t like it, you should not start from the beginning. Just like adopting a pet at home, you are responsible to an artificial intelligence at home once you decided to have it in your life. To me, the ending as described in the ‘Be Right Back’ in Black Mirror is totally unacceptable.
